Partial closure of Long Thành Expressway in HCM City for repairs expected to last until mid-August

The HCM City-Long Thành-Dầu Giây Expressway is undergoing maintenance and upgrades, resulting in a partial closure that will last until mid-August 2025. Drivers are urged to be cautious and aware of the changes, as the repair of the expansion joint on the Long Thành Bridge is expected to take around 15 days, starting from July 15, 2025.

During this period, half of the left-side carriageway in the direction from Đồng Nai to HCM City on the Long Thành Bridge will be closed. Additionally, the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) upgrades will take place at 64 points along the expressway, involving lane narrowing and lower speed limits.

To avoid congestion, drivers are advised to slow down and maintain safe distances. It is also recommended to check traffic updates for alternative routes before embarking on journeys. While no specific alternative routes have been highlighted, drivers are urged to follow road signs and official updates for optimal routing.

The Vehicle Control and Management Centre (VECE) is coordinating with traffic police and other agencies to manage traffic flow and minimize disruptions during the construction period. Police and traffic controllers will be deployed at key points to manage traffic flow during the repairs. Speed limits will be reduced in affected zones during the repairs and upgrades.

The Long Thành Bridge, the largest structure on the route, spans 2.3 km and is a frequent congestion point, particularly on weekends and holidays. The HCM City-Long Thành Expressway connects HCM City to Đông Nai Province and has links to industrial zones, ports, and major highways in southern Việt Nam.

Further increases in traffic are expected once the expressway links to the Biên Hòa-Vũng Tàu Expressway and the under-construction Long Thành International Airport. Since the expressway was connected to the Dầu Giây-Phan Thiết Expressway, traffic volumes have surged.

The Long Thành Bridge was last repaired in September 2024. This current repair focuses on replacing the expansion joints. The P26 pier joint on the Long Thành Bridge will be under repair for 15 days.

For the latest updates and traffic information, drivers are encouraged to stay tuned to official channels and follow all safety instructions to ensure a smooth journey.

  1. The government may announce an update on the alternative routes for the HCM City-Long Thành-Dầu Giây Expressway due to the Long Thành Bridge repairs, as the increased traffic volume is expected once it links to the Biên Hòa-Vũng Tàu Expressway and the under-construction Long Thành International Airport.
  2. In light of the AI-driven Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) upgrades on the expressway, the finance industry should consider providing convenient insurance options for drivers during the partial closure and construction period to minimize financial burdens due to potential delays.
  3. As the expansion joints of the Long Thành Bridge will be replaced during this maintenance period, the war for the efficiency and autonomy in transportation systems may intensify, with AI and self-driving vehicles being potential solutions for shorter travel times, reduced congestion, and more sustainable transportation infrastructure.
