Over 100 Officers Inspect Taxi, Rental Car Industry in Hesse

Over 100 customs officers from the Main Customs Office Giessen have conducted a large-scale inspection in the taxi and rental car industry across North, East, and Central Hesse. Around 40 companies and 130 drivers were checked at collection points and while in traffic.

The operation, led by Uta Ruge, head of the Hauptzollamt Giessen, involved inspecting businesses and drivers in various regions. In Giessen, 17 businesses and 51 individuals were checked, with 13 businesses and 31 individuals inspected in Fulda. In Kassel and Melsungen, 5 businesses and 33 individuals were targeted, and in the Bad Hersfeld area, 5 businesses and 17 individuals were inspected.

The inspections revealed several issues. Three drivers were found not to be properly registered. In Kassel, four cases resulted in on-site fines for missing hour records and failing to inform employers about identification obligations. Initial indications of violations, such as minimum wage non-payment or misuse of social benefits, were found in 41 cases, leading to further investigations.

The operation highlights the commitment of the Main Customs Office Giessen to ensure fair competition and compliance with regulations in the taxi and rental car industry. Further investigations are underway following the initial findings.
