Orange Gas Cloud from Chemical Plant Accident Prompts Indoor Warning

An industrial accident in Mainaschaff sent an orange gas cloud into the air, prompting authorities to warn residents to stay indoors. Four people sustained minor injuries in the incident at a chemical plant, where firefighters worked for hours to contain the situation.

The accident occurred when a metal piece fell into a tank containing 6,000 liters of nitric acid, triggering a chemical reaction. This caused an orange gas cloud to shoot uncontrollably from the tank, spreading up to five kilometers from the site. While initial measurements found no harmful particles in the air, toxic gases, including nitric acid, were suspected to have been released.

Firefighters battled against the chemical reaction by cooling the tank with water to slow it down. Around 250 emergency services were temporarily on site to assist in the response. The authorities raised the alarm and advised citizens to stay indoors and keep doors and windows closed, fearing a toxic gas cloud.

The accident at the unidentified chemical plant in Mainascaff resulted in four minor injuries and caused concern due to the release of potentially toxic gases. Firefighters successfully contained the situation, and no harmful particles were detected in the air up to five kilometers from the site.
