Onshore gas processing initiative commences at Dorra Field under KGOC supervision

The Kuwait Gulf Oil Company (KGOC) has embarked on a significant project to construct an onshore gas processing plant for the Dorra offshore field, a joint development between KGOC and Aramco Gulf Operations Company (AGOC), a Saudi Aramco subsidiary.

The facility, located in Kuwait, will process gas extracted from the Dorra field, situated in the neutral zone between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The plant is expected to have a capacity to process up to 632 million cubic feet of gas per day and will also process 88,900 barrels per day of condensates.

KGOC is finalizing licensed technology agreements with Honeywell UOP (USA) for the acid gas removal unit and Shell Catalysts & Technologies (UK), a Shell subsidiary, for the sulfur recovery unit.

The project has been divided into four Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) packages. Package 1 involves seven platform installations and internal pipelines, with bids submitted on June 2. Package 2A covers surface production units and corrosion-resistant piping, while Package 2B includes gas compression platforms, accommodation, and main transmission pipelines. Package 3 pertains to the onshore gas processing plant, all with deadlines ranging up to July 31.

French firm Technip Energies is handling the front-end engineering and design (FEED) for the plant. The company was appointed by Aramco and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation in 2023 to redesign the field's infrastructure after older plans became outdated.

The Dorra field is estimated to hold 20 trillion cubic feet of gas and 310 million barrels of oil. Once operational, the surplus gas from the Dorra field is expected to be supplied to Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) for use in oil well injection to enhance production.

Bidders for the offshore work reportedly include Lamprell (Saudi/UAE), Larsen & Toubro (India), McDermott (USA), NMDC (UAE), and Saipem (Italy). The exact timeline, contractors, and EPC tender details for the project remain to be announced by KGOC. For more specific information, it may be necessary to consult specialized industry reports, official KGOC announcements, or recent press releases directly from Kuwait’s oil sector sources.

The project, involving the construction of an onshore gas processing plant for the Dorra offshore field, will necessitate the use of licensed technology from Honeywell UOP for acid gas removal and Shell Catalysts & Technologies for sulfur recovery. This oil-and-gas industry venture, expected to process up to 632 million cubic feet of gas per day and 88,900 barrels per day of condensates, also seeks financing to fund its various Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) packages.
