'Marathon Talks' Between U.S. and China Over Trade Dispute Resolution Continue

Ongoing Customs Discourses Between U.S. and China Persist

Did you hear his latest? Those grueling eight-hour talks between the U.S. and China's top dogs are still going strong! The chit-chat began over the weekend in Geneva and ain't stopping till Sunday.

The Golden Goats and the Red Dragons are knuckling down to nail a solution for their ongoing trade brawl. But what's happening behind closed doors, you ask? Well, insiders aren't so forthcoming.

Economy 101 China's Been Ready for This Scuffle for Ages The dance-off between Liu He, the Chinese Vice Premier, Steve Mnuchin, U.S. Treasury Secretary, and Robert Lighthizer, U.S. Trade Representative, has been long-awaited, sorta like an epic heavyweight boxing match with the whole world as ringside.

Not gonna lie, it's a doozy that's got everyone glued to their seats. Trump's trade tantrums have sent financial markets spiraling and nervous wrecks worldwide. The offshore wind's been choppy, let me tell ya!

Trump's Change in Attitude

Though the U.S. sealed a deal with the UK last week, the real prize is still China - the granddaddy of 'em all, thanks to their economic whopper of a trade volume and that global economy-shaking weight. You see, the U.S. and China have been slapping tariffs on each other that'll make your head spin, over 100 percent! And China's even blocked the export of crucial rare earths for electric vehicles.

But cry me a river, because Trump's softened his stance a tadjy bit. He said those sky-high tariffs of 80 percent on Chinese goods are "righteous". But, don't get too excited, 'cause Trump's mouthpiece, Karoline Leavitt, reminded us that it's all on Beijing to make some moves too.

Beijing Keeps Their Cool and Pushes for Tariff Removal

They've been saying it since the start of this ruckus: U.S., remove those tariffs! Beijing maintains its stance, unwilling to give an inch without the big, bad U.S. stepping back first. Chinese economist Xu Bin believes this Geneva meet-up is just about showing the world that both parties are talking.

China's the only country out there that'll go toe-to-toe with Trump's tariffs. Before the showdown, Mnuchin promised these Geneva talks would focus on de-escalation, no big trade deal. When he scooted outta there in the wee hours of the morning, he was tight-lipped as a clam.
