The Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) wind farm, located off the coast of Scotland, has officially commenced operations as of late July 2025 [1][3][5]. This offshore wind farm, situated 15.5 km off the coast of Fife, boasts 54 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines and a total capacity of 450 MW [8].

The wind farm's operations and maintenance (O&M) base is situated in Eyemouth, Berwickshire, and includes a 1,040-square-metre operations and maintenance building and a 538-square-metre storage warehouse [6]. The control room in this base will monitor the wind farm's low carbon electricity output, wind speed, turbine performance, and radio communications [7].

The opening of the NnG O&M base is expected to bring up to 50 high-quality jobs to Eyemouth Harbour for the 25-year lifespan of the wind farm [2]. This increased staffing is anticipated to bring additional economic benefits to the surrounding area.

Once fully commissioned, the NnG wind farm will supply electricity for around 375,000 homes [4][9]. Moreover, the wind farm will offset over 400,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year [10].

Offshore construction at the NnG project site is well underway, with the first ten wind turbine jacket foundations in place [1]. The installation of the remaining piles at wind turbine locations has resumed, although no specific number is mentioned [1].

The control room team will also monitor and control the movement of wind farm vessels into and out of Eyemouth Harbour and the wind farm site. The first units of the NnG wind farm are planned to be operational in mid-2023 [3]. The NnG wind farm, jointly owned by EDF Renewables and ESB, is poised to contribute significantly to Scotland's renewable energy goals and local economy.

The renewable-energy industry is set to witness a substantial injection of finance with the commencement of operations at the Neart na Gaoithe wind farm, supplying electricity for approximately 375,000 homes. The operations and maintenance base of this wind farm, located in Eyemouth, will create up to 50 jobs and contribute economically to the surrounding area.
