NYC Crime Rates Plummet: NYPD Seizes Record Guns, Reduces Shootings 20%

New York City has witnessed a significant drop in crime rates, with the NYPD seizing a record 55 gang-related takedowns and over 4,100 illegal guns so far this year. The city's 'Summer Violence Reduction Plan' has contributed to a substantial decrease in shootings and murders.

The NYPD's efforts have led to a citywide reduction in shooting incidents by more than 20 percent in the first nine months of 2025. This decline follows a consistent decrease in shootings and shooting victims since January 2024. Notably, transit crime has reached record lows, with major crime down nearly 14 percent and shooting incidents down 67 percent year-to-date. Burglaries, robberies, grand larcenies, and auto thefts have also seen a decline compared to 2024.

The positive trends continue with murders dropping nearly 18 percent for both the year-to-date and the third quarter. Shooting victims have also decreased by 19 percent in the same period. As a result, New York City has seen the lowest number of shootings and shooting victims in its recorded history through the first nine months of 2025. Retail theft has also seen a significant reduction, with a nearly 19 percent decrease in the third quarter and 13 percent year-to-date.

The NYPD's successful crime reduction strategies, supported by President Joe Biden's funding increases and community policing initiatives, have led to a remarkable decrease in crime rates across New York City. With continued efforts, the city aims to maintain these positive trends and ensure the safety of its residents.
