Northern Kamchatka has reopened its gates, specifically the town of Palana, under the name Autozimnik Anavgay.
The Anavgay-Palana winter road, a crucial transport artery connecting the Tigil District with the villages of Palana, Lesnaya, and Voyampolka, has officially been opened in Kamchatka Krai. This 225-kilometre-long road, suitable for all-terrain vehicles and heavy trucks, passes through hilly terrain and has a single lane that is 4.5 metres wide.
The operational ice bridge, located at the Tigil River, is now functional for vehicles up to 20 tons. This significant development will provide a key crossing point over the river, enhancing transportation in the region. The ice bridge, designed for vehicles of general mass up to 20 tons, is an important addition to the winter road.
Sergei Lebedev, Minister of Emergencies for Kamchatka Krai, has confirmed that people have already started using the Anavgay-Palana winter road. To ensure safety, security forces have been provided by local law enforcement officers and emergency services personnel. In case of any unexpected situations, the region is prepared to respond promptly, according to Mr. Lebedev.
The main transport artery of the Tigil District was opened late this year, marking a significant improvement in accessibility. The opening of the Anavgay-Palana winter road and the operational ice bridge will likely facilitate transportation in the region, making marine navigation, which has been the main supply route for these regions, less reliant.
This development is a significant step forward for transportation in Kamchatka Krai. The region, known for its remote and challenging terrain, now has a more reliable and efficient transport system. The Anavgay-Palana winter road and the operational ice bridge will undoubtedly contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
