South Korean food and beverage giant, Nongshim, is expanding its popular snack line with the release of Melon Kick in North America. The new product, a spin-off of Nongshim's Banana Kick, has seen a surge in interest after Blackpink's Jennie named it as her favourite snack when she was young.

Melon Kick comes in two sizes - 45g and 180g - catering to consumers' preferences in North America. The snack is made with Korean musk melon and milk, and its packaging will be in English to appeal to the international market.

Nongshim is actively pursuing entry into major retailers such as Walmart and Amazon, with approximately 10,000 boxes of Melon Kick initially released. The total value of the initial release is approximately $1 million.

Since its launch in April, Melon Kick has topped shelves in convenience stores and supermarkets in South Korea, recording 7.2 million units sold in just three months. The snack's popularity has led to a 30 percent rise in domestic sales for Banana Kick, and Melon Kick is receiving export inquiries from several countries.

The international appeal of Banana Kick has led to a doubling of exports compared to last year, and Melon Kick is expected to follow suit. Nongshim is currently pushing exports to Japan, China, Vietnam, Chile, and other markets for Melon Kick, indicating a broader global strategy for the brand.

The company's international expansion strategy focuses on entering major North American retailers such as Walmart and Amazon with tailored packaging and sizing for the market. This approach highlights a clear strategy of localization by adjusting packaging language and portion sizes to meet consumer expectations outside Korea.
