Nio's L90 deliveries commence; test drive cars escalate to a thousand
Nio's Onvo L90 SUV Launched in China with Rapid Delivery
Nio Inc's family-focused sub-brand, Onvo, has officially launched the L90 SUV in China. The launch event took place in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, on July 30, 2025 [1][3]. Pre-orders for the L90 began on July 10, and deliveries are expected shortly after the launch [1][3].
The L90 is a full-size, three-row electric SUV, offering a spacious cabin and a range of up to 605 km (CLTC standard) [1][4]. It comes with two battery options: a standard 85 kWh battery pack with a 900-volt electrical architecture, and a smaller 60 kWh battery option for rear-wheel-drive variants [2][5].
The L90 is competitively priced, with the six-seat Pro trim starting at around 265,800 yuan (~$37,200) [5]. With Nio's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription, the upfront prices drop to approximately 179,800 yuan (~$25,000) for Pro and 193,800 yuan (~$26,900) for Max, with a monthly battery lease fee of 899 yuan (~$125) [5].
Onvo has already produced a batch of L90 vehicles in advance to enable rapid delivery after the launch [2]. Customers were allowed to test drive the L90 SUV on July 23 [2]. As of this morning, there are still finished L90 vehicles available, according to Nio management [2].
Qin Lihong, co-founder and president of Nio, stated that the L90 vehicles need to be fully matched with the configurations selected by users before delivery can be arranged [2]. To address this, Onvo will accelerate production to ensure rapid delivery of the L90 vehicles [2].
Initially, nearly 600 vehicles were available for test drives at Onvo's showrooms covering 140 cities. Onvo added 400 vehicles for test drives, bringing the total number of test drive vehicles to 1,000 [2]. The L90 vehicles used for test drives are equipped with 60-kWh battery packs [2].
The first deliveries of the L90 were conducted in 44 cities across China today. The first L90 vehicles delivered are six-seaters, with seven-seaters to follow in late September [2]. As for whether the 60-kWh battery pack will be available for the L90, Onvo's team needs to conduct further research [2].
William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of Onvo, handed over L90 vehicles to 21 owners at an Onvo delivery center in Xiaoshan, Zhejiang province [2]. The L90 comes standard with an 85-kWh battery pack, unlike Onvo's first model, the L60, which can be upgraded to an 85-kWh battery pack [2]. The starting price of the L90 is RMB 265,800 including an 85-kWh battery pack [2].
Nio positions the L90 as a competitive family-oriented SUV, leveraging its battery swap capability to address range anxiety, and offering flexibility with both battery sizes and a subscription financing model [1][2][5].
