NextStar Energy's Windsor Plant Begins Production, Boosting Local Economy
NextStar Energy's cell manufacturing plant in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, has officially begun ramping up for production this year. The $5-billion investment has placed Windsor at the forefront of electrification, with the facility receiving its Occupancy Permit, marking the end of construction and the start of operations.
The plant, a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Stellantis, is capable of an annual production capacity of up to 49.5 gigawatt hours. It consists of 11 buildings, including two main manufacturing facilities and nine support buildings, spread across the site in Windsor.
Construction began in 2022 and progressed rapidly, with minor activities continuing in non-operational areas. Over 9,000 Canadian trades workers have contributed more than 8.4 million work hours to the site. The facility is now fully approved for safe occupancy and ready for production.
NextStar Energy has hired over 950 full-time employees and is committed to creating 2,500 local jobs. The plant's commencement of production signifies a significant step towards electrification and a boost to the local economy.
