New U4 Station at Moldauhafen Receives a Name
New Subway Station in Hamburg: Moldauhafen Takes the Lead!
The name for the upcoming U4 subway station has been announced! After an online poll organized by Hochbahn, the majority of Hamburg citizens have voted for Moldauhafen as the Station's moniker.
Slated to open in 2031, the Moldauhafen Station will be located south of the Norderelbe on the Grasbrook, following the construction of a new bridge over the river. Pedestrians and cyclists will benefit from an additional level below the tracks designed exclusively for their use. Regular service on the U4 line connects Billstedt with Elbbrücken, making this new station an integral part of the city's transport network.
With plans to build a new city district housing about 6,000 residents on the Grasbrook, the Moldauhafen Station is expected to serve as a central hub for the community.
Moldauhafen Stands Tall
Over 16,000 people chimed in with their preferences in the aforementioned poll, with Moldauhafen winning a resounding 66% of the vote. Grasbrook took the second spot with 26% of the votes, while Prager Ufer garnered 8% of the preferences.
The term Moldauhafen was introduced by Hochbahn to denote a 1887-built harbor, which was leased post-World War I to the then-Czechoslovakia[4].
