Musk's financial actions are facing scrutiny over potential influence on British political spheres.

There's been buzz in the UK about a potential millions-worth donation from American billionaire Elon Musk to the right-wing populist party, Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage. Farage confirmed that Reform would accept such funds if they came from Musk. Critics have voiced concerns that Musk is trying to buy influence in the party.

Recent news reports suggest that Musk is planning to contribute significant sums to the right-wing populists. The reported amount is around 100 million euros, but Musk hasn't officially confirmed this yet. When a journalist asked if he'd give 80 million pounds, Musk replied negatively.

Musk has been critical of the British government led by Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer this summer, labeling Britain a "tyrannical police state" after far-right activists were jailed for online hate speech.

"Give us the weapons"

Farage, following his announcement on X that Reform would "change British politics forever," prompted Musk with, "When is the first election opportunity?"

The new party treasurer, Nick Candy, a former Conservative, told the right-wing channel GB News that Reform UK would welcome Musk's funding. Additionally, Candy promised a substantial sum from his own pocket.

Farage has been open to the idea of Musk's funding, stating, "We need ammunition. We can't run large national election campaigns without funds." Earlier, he was noted as being a big supporter of then-US President Donald Trump and a "great admirer" of Musk, who had donated more than 250 million dollars for Trump's election campaign.

Reform UK gained votes from the Conservatives in the July parliamentary election, winning only five seats in the House of Commons due to the UK's first-past-the-post system. However, polls now indicate the party, which advocates for strict immigration policies, is gaining momentum.

Money and influence

If the rumors of Musk's million-dollar donation are true, the world's richest man would also be looking to advance his commercial interests. A new British law requires social networks to take more responsibility for prohibiting illegal and potentially harmful content, with hefty fines for violations.

During the US election, Musk not only supported Trump with monetary donations in the hundreds of millions but also supposedly changed the X algorithm to favor Musk and Republican accounts and content on July 13, the day he announced his support for Trump.

Since Trump's election, Musk has been more prominent in European politics. He has met with Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and has had unfavorable comments about German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the SPD, as well as participated in discussions about a potential collapse of the German socialist government and new elections in Germany.

Musk's potential donation to Reform UK has raised concerns about his influence in the party, as critics view it as an attempt to buy political favor. Despite Musk's denial of giving 80 million pounds, the new party treasurer, Nick Candy, and Farage himself have expressed the need for funding to run large-scale campaigns.
