Multinational corporation Bimbo allegedly seizes control of Karamolegos Pastry Shop in Romania
Big Mexican bakery giant, Grupo Bimbo, is expanding its Romanian operations yet again. They've just snapped up Karamolegos Bakery Romania, as per their latest financial report – but they're keeping the nitty-gritty details of the deal hush-hush, according to industry reports.
Before this latest buy, Grupo Bimbo's last M&A move was in late 2024, when they picked up Slovenia's Don Don bakery business. That deal gave them a presence in 39 countries worldwide.
Karamolegos Bakery Romania raked in RON 35.5 million (roughly EUR 7 million) in revenues and a net profit of RON 3.3 million (around EUR 660,000) in 2024. Their revenues have exceeded the 30 million EUR mark for the past four years, and their profits have been gradually consolidating.
Grupo Bimbo previously scooped up the major Romanian bakery group Vel Pitar in 2023 in a deal estimated at a whopping EUR 200 million. In 2024, they expanded their Romanian footprint further with the purchase of six bakeries (including Trei Brutari with three bakeries) in a deal believed to be around EUR 100 million.
Karamolegos Bakery Romania calls Ilfov, Bucharest its home and caters to the retail market with a variety of packaged breads. According to its website, it's part of the Santorini-based Karamolegos Bakery KB, founded in 1950. The Romanian subsidiary was launched in 2009 and boasts a production capacity of approximately 50 tonnes per day, according to Profit.ro.

P.S.: Although Grupo Bimbo hasn't disclosed the exact monetary value of the Karamolegos Bakery acquisition or the specifics of their production capacity, it's clear they're serious about growing their Romanian bakery empire!
In light of the recent acquisition, it appears that Grupo Bimbo's focus extends beyond the bakery industry in Romania, as they delve into the financial sector by incorporating Karamolegos Bakery Romania into their business operations. With this move, their reign over the Romanian bakery market grows even stronger, as they stepped into the fray of local business competition.
