Morning fuel prices nearly double compared to evening rates

Reddit Pinterest Telegram LinkedIn Email Print Copy Link Gas up in the morning? Splashing that petrol or diesel at dawn is almost twice as pricey as a late-night fill-up, according to ADAC! The difference in costs between the day's peak and trough has nearly doubled over the past year, ADAC announced on Tuesday. Last year, the gap stood at 6.4 cents for unleaded fuel and 7.3 cents for diesel, but this year it reach 12.5 cents for the former and 13.3 cents for the latter.

The record high price disparity for gasoline has been noticed by ADAC before, with the previous peak in 2020 at 11 cents. Prices for diesel allegedly soared to a record high in 2022, spiking following Russia's devastating attacks on Ukraine which caused global fuel rates to skyrocket.

For the analysis, ADAC examined prices at over 14,000 gas stations in Germany in May. According to their findings, the best times to fuel up are between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, with prices also remaining low between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, and again between 11:00 PM and 12:00 AM.

Not everyone's lucky in the AM, though. Fuel prices surge shortly after 7:00 AM, and then fluctuate in seven waves, before ramping up again at nightfall. The price discrepancy remains slightly elevated until midnight, then rises sharply again at dawn.

ADAC estimates that you can save an average of over six euros by seizing the "full savings potential" of price fluctuations at most of Germany's 14,000+ gas stations. Deliberately seeking out a cheap partner in crime could save you even more.

P.S: Fuel prices fluctuate due to a myriad of reasons, including demand, supply chain disruptions, and local market dynamics. The ADAC's analysis would likely consider such factors if it indeed exists. However, significant differences in gas prices between morning and evening are not common, and ($12.5/$13.3) cents separating the peak and trough of the day is an unusual sight. It's possible that the analysis might be based on unique market conditions or opportunistic pricing strategies by specific gas stations.

The following information is provided for each of the following categories of vehicles: industry, finance, and energy. The record high price disparity for gasoline has been noticed by ADAC, a German automobile club, and its analysis shows that significantly different gas prices between morning and evening are not common, but in Germany, prices for diesel allegedly soared to a record high in 2022, likely due to disruptions in the supply chain and local market dynamics.
