A staggering 72% of large industrial companies in Germany are ironically, missing out on the goldmine that Artificial Intelligence (AI) represents. According to a revealing study by Bitkom, which was recently unveiled in Berlin, only a mere 24% of companies are adept at harnessing AI's potential, leaving three-quarters stranded on the sidelines. The report has identified energy management as the domain where AI has the most potential by a landslide, with 85% of industrial companies showing keen interest in this area [1].
AI has the power to revolutionize production processes, eradicate errors, and slash costs, as outlined by the study. Unfortunately, the slow progress in implementing AI in German industry can be pinned down to three major factors: a dearth of time, insufficient expertise, and what Bitkom expert Lukas Spohr terms as "over-regulation."
The argument for prioritizing AI in energy management, robotics, analytics, and warehouse management is a strong one, according to the report. Yet, the lack of skilled professionals, resource constraints, and legal uncertainties are shackling the industry's forward march [1].
To gain insights, Bitkom conducted a survey by speaking with 552 industrial companies employing over 100 individuals.

1) To bridge the gap and stay competitive, a community policy focusing on vocational training for AI and related fields such as energy management, robotics, analytics, and warehouse management could be essential.
2) Despite the financial benefits of investing in AI, Industry's sluggish progress may be alleviated by addressing energy issues and implementing more flexible regulations that encourage vocational training and collaboration with financial institutions to invest in emerging technology.
