Merger discussions are underway between S4 Capital, led by Martin Sorrell, and MSQ Partners.

S4 Capital, the U.K.-based marketing group founded by industry veteran Martin Sorrell in May 2018, has seen a tumultuous year. The company, which currently employs a team of 9,000 people, has been grappling with a significant drop in its stock price. As of now, the stock price has fallen as much as 98% from its September 2021 highs, leaving the current market value at £140 million ($187.7 million).

This decline in stock price can be attributed to a reduction in revenue forecast, stemming from a weaker global economy and U.S. tariffs. This has caused tech clients to exercise caution, leading to a decrease in projected revenue for S4 Capital. In response to this, the company has reduced its 2025 revenue forecast to low-single-digits.

However, a much-needed boost was provided when news of a potential merger with advertising group S4 Capital surfaced. The news caused S4's stock price to jump 14%. The discussions were at a very preliminary stage, but the prospect of a merger seemed promising.

The potential merger partner was marketing agency MSQ Partners. The initial approach by MSQ Partners to S4 Capital about a possible deal was made earlier in August 2025. However, the current status of these talks is that MSQ Partners has ruled out a deal and expressed surprise at recent merger speculation.

By August 15, MSQ Partners publicly denied merger talks and dismissed acquisition rumours[1][2]. It appears that the merger between S4 Capital and MSQ Partners is no longer on the table.

Despite this setback, S4 Capital continues to be led by Martin Sorrell, who is known for building WPP into a creative behemoth. The company remains optimistic about its future and is committed to delivering value to its shareholders.

  1. The potential growth of S4 Capital, following the promising merger discussions, took a significant hit after MSQ Partners publicly denied the merger talks.
  2. Despite the current challenges in finance, such as reduced revenue forecasts and a drop in stock price, S4 Capital continues to pursue capital investments with the intention of driving the business forward and delivering value to its shareholders.
