MBDA Wins Major Italian Contract for Advanced TESEO MK2/E Anti-Ship Missiles
MBDA has secured a significant contract with Italy's National Directorate of Naval Armaments for the supply of its advanced TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missiles. This deal marks a transition for the programme from development into serial production and highlights the export potential of the technology.
The TESEO MK2/E missile, an evolution of the OTOMAT family, is equipped with an Active Electronically Scanned Array seeker and modern datalink functions. This enables in-flight control and retasking via satellite communications, allowing it to engage very long range naval and land targets, with a secondary deep strike role.
The contract will see these missiles arm various Italian naval vessels. FREMM EVO frigates, MPCS/PPA multi-role ships, and the planned DDX destroyers will all be equipped with the TESEO MK2/E. This is part of the Italian Navy's plan to fit next-generation surface ships with a modern anti-ship and land attack option.
Lorenzo Mariani of MBDA hailed the deal as a validation of the programme's progress and industrial alignment with the Italian Navy. The production run will supply these new-generation missiles, further bolstering Italy's naval capabilities.
