Maritime services company, Semco, secures agreements for supporting Iberdrola's Baltic Hub Substations
In the German exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea, Iberdrola's Baltic Hub is set to grow significantly by 2026, with a combined offshore wind capacity of approximately 826 MW. This expansion will see the addition of the third offshore wind farm, the Windanker, whose details, including location, have not been specified.
By 2026, the Baltic Hub will consist of two main projects: the 350 MW Wikinger and the 476 MW Baltic Eagle offshore wind farms, which are already underway. The installation of all wind turbines at the Baltic Eagle (476 MW) has been successfully completed, marking a key milestone for the Baltic Hub. Iberdrola has also started construction of the Baltic Eagle project and continues to operate the Wikinger farm.
To ensure efficient maintenance and cost savings, Iberdrola has awarded two offshore service contracts to Semco Maritime for maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment at two offshore substations in the Baltic Hub. These contracts include options for extension. However, it's important to note that the Windanker is not included in these service contracts.
In a bid to further reduce operational risks and costs, Iberdrola is implementing a combined project management and central on-call duty system for technicians. This approach, which will be applied to the Balance of Plant service works for the Baltic Hub, allows for optimizations and potential cost savings.
By 2026, the combined capacity of all three projects in the Baltic Hub will exceed 1.1 GW, contributing to Iberdrola's broader ambition to reach 12,000 MW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
The Baltic Hub offshore wind farms, located near the island of Rügen, are set to play a crucial role in Iberdrola's renewable energy strategy, generating a combined capacity of 826 MW. While the details of the Windanker's maintenance schedule and service providers are not yet disclosed, it's clear that Iberdrola is committed to the ongoing operational activity and readiness of its Baltic Hub portfolio.
- Iberdrola is expanding its renewable energy portfolio in the Baltic Sea, with plans to add a third offshore wind farm, the Windanker, by 2026, further increasing the finance for this industry.
- By 2026, the combined offshore wind capacity of Iberdrola's Baltic Hub, consisting of the Wikinger, Baltic Eagle, and the upcoming Windanker, will exceed 1.1 GW, a significant contribution to Iberdrola's goal of 12,000 MW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
- To maintain the efficiency of its Baltic Hub offshore wind farms, Iberdrola has negotiated service contracts with Semco Maritime for the maintenance of electro-mechanical equipment at two offshore substations, but the Windanker is not included in these agreements, suggesting that separate arrangements may be made for its maintenance.
