Major Inspection Nets 159 Checks, Multiple Offenses in Logistics Sector

On November 12, 2024, the Main Customs Office Krefeld, in collaboration with local police, conducted a major inspection targeting freight forwarding, logistics, courier, and parcel service industries in Krefeld, Mönchengladbach, and Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The operation focused on ensuring compliance with social security, minimum wage, and other employment-related regulations.

During the inspection, 159 people were checked and questioned about their employment relationships. The operation led to numerous administrative offense proceedings being initiated due to violations of loading safety. Additionally, 15 employers failed to meet immediate notification requirements regarding the employment of workers encountered.

At a control point in Mönchengladbach, a person wanted on an arrest warrant was apprehended. Two individuals were provisionally arrested for suspected illegal residence and subsequently handed over to the foreign authority. Nine cases were suspected of withholding and misappropriation of wages, with employees not registered with social security. One case suspected minimum wage violation, and two persons were suspected of abusing services, leading to proceedings being initiated against them.

The inspection resulted in several suspected violations, including loading safety, notification requirements, illegal residence, wage withholding, minimum wage, and service abuse. While the number of penalized companies remains unclear, the operation highlights the authorities' commitment to enforcing social security and fair employment practices within the targeted industries.
