Madrid versus Valencia Initial Squad Lineup: Two Alterations to Secure Pinnacle Position

In an upcoming La Liga clash, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti plans to alter his lineup against Valencia, whose game was postponed due to devastating floods in their region. The match on the schedule could propel Madrid to the league's summit, an unexpected turn of events for Ancelotti's squad, who were trailing leaders FC Barcelona by six points after a 4-0 loss to the Catalans in El Clasico at the Bernabeu in October.

With a win under their belts, Madrid could leapfrog crosstown rival Atletico Madrid by two points and create a tight race for the title by May, according to Ancelotti.

"Nobody had forecast this (Barca's dip in form)," Ancelotti commented at a press conference ahead of the game, where he also addressed the controversy surrounding Dani Olmo's registration.

"La Liga's competition level reduces the points needed to clinch the title a bit. The presence of Atletico, too, fosters uncertainty, and I suppose it will take fewer than 90 points to secure the championship."

Barcelona, just like Madrid in November, experienced a downturn in December, according to Ancelotti. He believes Barca, Atletico, and Madrid all have equivalent chances of succeeding in La Liga.

"We're starting a demanding new challenge with great enthusiasm," Ancelotti stated regarding 2025.

"Valencia has undergone a coaching change, and historically, it's been challenging for us to outplay Valencia. We aim to kick off the year on the right foot. This fixture is essential. The team is in good shape. The extended breaks have rejuvenated everyone, and they've returned highly motivated and fit."

Injuries notwithstanding, Ancelotti will unveil his strongest starting eleven.

Thibaut Courtois will man the goalposts, with Lucas Vazquez and Ferland Mendy securing the right and left-back positions, respectively. Aurelien Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger will fortify the central defense.

Dani Ceballos will maintain his position in midfield, partnering Fede Valverde, with the duo providing cover to Jude Bellingham, as he orchestrates attacks alongside left winger Vinicius Jr. and right winger Rodrygo.

Upfront, Kylian Mbappe, who has recently found his touch, will spearhead the attack as the lone striker.

Regarding Vinicius, who served a suspension in the match against Sevilla, Ancelotti commented that he has been "doing exceptionally well."

"The time off has benefited the players. He’s brimming with energy and excitement, having received accolades recently. He's eager to elevate our game tomorrow," Ancelotti added.

Vinicius, with a personal connection to the Mestalla, is welcomed by the Madrid manager, who emphasized the team's focus on the pitch instead of the stands.

"Valencia has undergone a management change, which might provide increased motivation for the players. For me, Ruben Baraja did an outstanding job, but transition in football is inevitable. We anticipate a formidable match. Concentration on the game is paramount," Ancelotti concluded.

In the anticipated La Liga encounter against Valencia, manager Carlo Ancelotti might decide to deploy Kylian Mbappe as the main striker, aiming to build on his recent form. This match, postponed due to floods, could potentially help Real Madrid overtake crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid in the standings, if they secure a victory. Jude Bellingham, a key midfielder for Madrid, will play a crucial role in orchestrating attacks, partnering with Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo on the wings.
