Lufthansa Pilots Threaten Strike as Two Startups Launch New German Routes
Lufthansa pilots are threatening a strike, while two regional flight startups, Skyhub-PAD and Vini, have launched new services within Germany. The Cockpit Association, representing Lufthansa pilots, is unhappy with annual transition benefits of 150,000 euros.
Lufthansa, Germany's most loss-making airline, faces a potential strike from its pilots, who are among the best-paid in the industry. The Cockpit Association wants to hold a strike vote due to dissatisfaction with their annual transition benefits.
Meanwhile, two regional flight startups have started new offerings. Skyhub-PAD has reconnected Paderborn to a hub after Lufthansa's withdrawal. Vini, a rebranded Flyv, has expanded its route network from regional to European destinations, commencing commercial operations in Germany last week. Notably, Vini uses artificial intelligence for demand-driven flight plans.
Lufthansa pilots' strike vote could disrupt operations, while Skyhub-PAD and Vini's new offerings may fill gaps left by Lufthansa's withdrawal. Vini's use of AI for flight plans could set it apart in the competitive market.
