Long-distance travel disruptions hit Bielefeld: majority of residents opt for leisurely approach
Start Disruptions, Stop Whining## East Westphalia-Lippe's Rail Traffic Hit Hard for a Week
It's quieter than usual at Bielefeld's main station on a Saturday. The display board in the main hall is littered with missing long-distance train indications, replaced by regional train routes and, you guessed it, buses.
Kolja Selker reported on 07.06.2025, 18:41, and the article is valid until 07.06.2027.
The cause? Major renovations on a railway bridge in Herford for a week, starting from last Friday at 9 PM. In short, disruptions to long-distance traffic. No trains are running in Bielefeld towards Hannover and Berlin, and many regional trains have adjusted schedules. It's all chaotic, but don't worry, there's a zuginfo.nrw team roaming the main station to help lost passengers find the right replacement bus.
Now, there are some grumbles here and there from the affected train travelers. Take Sören Friedrich, the student on his way to Hannover. He ships up playing it cool with a bus ride to Löhne and a regional train to his destination. Big deal. But not everyone is being so understanding. Atik Yilmaz, for instance, who left Düsseldorf at 7 AM to head to Helmstedt, is finding all the delays annoying as hell.
Don't think this is the end of it either. After next Friday evening, eight of the 16 tracks on the overpass should be finished - just the third of four construction phases. But construction on the busy route won't stop there, there's more renovation work coming in the summer, including track, bridge, and noise protection wall work. So it looks like train travelers will just have to get used to the disruptions for a while longer.
