LG unreveils a gigantic 57-inch P@P LCD display at CES, along with a flexible 32-inch LED screen.
At this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES), LG Display has showcased a series of innovative automotive display solutions, setting the stage for the future of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). The South Korean tech giant has introduced three concept cars, each equipped with optimised display solutions for various stages of SDV development.
In the Shift to SDV Zone, LG Display has demonstrated its 'Ultra-large P-OLED P2P' technology. This groundbreaking display enables passengers to access features such as basic driving controls and content viewing, transforming the vehicle into an extension of their personal living space.
The front seat passengers can utilise a 57-inch P2P LCD during autonomous travel, attending video conferences or catching up on their favourite shows. Meanwhile, rear seat passengers can enjoy movies on a 32-inch Slidable OLED, which retracts from the ceiling when not in use.
The 57-inch P2P LCD provides various driving information, climate controls, and other vehicle details at a glance. This large display covers the entire dashboard from the driver's seat to the front passenger's seat, delivering high-definition picture quality and exceptional touch responsiveness. It also functions well in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C.
LG Display has secured ten premium global automakers across Europe, North America, and Korea within four years of initiating the mass production of its Automotive OLEDs. The company has also obtained the prerequisite international quality standard certification (IATF16949) to solidify its position in the ultra-large automotive display market.
In addition to the 57-inch P2P LCD and 32-inch Slidable OLED, LG Display has presented the 'Pop-up-type 48-inch LTPS LCD' and '18-inch Slidable OLED' in the Evolution of SDV Zone. These displays activate based on the passenger's needs, curating a space where driving and relaxation coexist.
The '17-inch Foldable OLED' is integrated into the Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) zone, allowing rear passengers to enjoy movies on a large screen or fold their display into a 12.3-inch tablet. A new 'Decorative Film' is attached to the screen in the Evolution of SDV Zone to resemble interior materials used in vehicles, such as carbon or wood, when not in use.
Moreover, LG Display is establishing a two-track production system for ultra-large automotive displays above 30 inches, with plans to begin mass production at its Paju plant after 2025. The company is also introducing the '32-inch Slidable OLED,' the largest slidable panel in the world, which is hidden in the ceiling and can be extended downward to form a large interior screen.
Finally, in the Beyond SDV Zone, LG Display showcases various ultra-large automotive displays throughout the cabin, including the 57-inch P2P LCD and the 32-inch Slidable OLED. These displays replace the steering wheel and help transform the vehicle into a personalised living space. The company has also introduced the proprietary 'Thin Actuator Sound Solution' that can be installed in various parts inside the vehicle to produce a rich, 3D-immersive sound experience that surrounds the passenger.
With these innovative display solutions, LG Display is leading the charge in the evolution of SDVs, offering passengers an unparalleled in-car experience.
