In the heart of Germany's Nordrhein-Westfalen region, the Police Headquarters Recklinghausen, in collaboration with customs and the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), recently conducted a series of auto checks throughout the Recklinghausen district and the independent city of Bottrop.

On August 8, a total of 201 vehicles were subjected to these checks, which focused on monitoring commercial passenger and freight transport. The main areas of scrutiny included load securing, roadworthiness, compliance with driving and rest times, and signs of manipulation of tachographs.

The checks, which were part of statewide control measures involving police, customs, BALM, TÜV, and other network partners across the entire state, aimed to ensure the safety of our roads.

The results of the checks were varied. While many trucks and buses were able to continue their journey without any issues after a short check, a total of 99 vehicles with violations were identified. The main violations found were violations of social regulations - driving and rest times of drivers - and load securing regulations.

In terms of load securing, eleven vehicles had insufficiently secured loads, a concern that Police President Friederike Zurhausen emphasised as crucial for road safety. Overloading and insufficient load securing can lead to severe accidents, she stated.

Regarding social regulations, a total of 15 vehicles had violations, with seven vehicles being prohibited from continuing their journey. The Police does not compromise in the area of driving and rest times and manipulation of tachographs, according to Zurhausen.

Furthermore, none of the checked vehicles showed signs of tachograph manipulation. This is a significant victory in the fight against such illegal activities, Zurhausen noted.

The checks were not without personal involvement, with Zurhausen herself personally accompanying a check in Bottrop. She supports the joint effort, emphasising the importance of smooth collaboration towards making roads safer for citizens.

Fines and even imprisonment await those who commit crimes related to the manipulation of tachographs, as stated by Zurhausen. The fight for road safety is ongoing, and the Police Headquarters Recklinghausen remains committed to ensuring the safety of all road users.
