Kuwait Urges Water Conservation Amid Summer Maintenance

Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy is urging the public to conserve water due to the country's scarcity of natural freshwater and reliance on seawater desalination. This comes as routine maintenance work on power generation units, transmission networks, and transformer stations is set to begin tomorrow as part of the ministry's annual plan.

Water consumption in Kuwait has been fluctuating. The lowest daily consumption was recorded on July 4 at 504 million gallons. Conversely, the highest daily consumption reached 533 million imperial gallons on June 4. The ministry is working to expand water production and storage capacity through several projects, including the comprehensive water system project in Mutlaa City, which is currently underway for early operational use.

The ministry has taken steps to ensure water supply balance during the summer. It has increased water reserves to over 96% of total storage capacity and implemented advance plans to boost reserves. Regular maintenance of pumping stations, main reservoirs, and distribution networks is also prioritized to minimize disruptions. Affected customers will be notified through the 'Sahl' government application and the ministry's official social media channels during maintenance work.

The ministry's efforts to enhance water production, storage, and distribution, along with public cooperation in water conservation, are crucial to meet Kuwait's water needs, especially during peak summer consumption.
