Krefeld Pioneers Energy-Saving Contracting for 2035 Climate Goal

Krefeld is pioneering energy-saving contracting (ESC) in North Rhine-Westphalia, with plans to renovate all public properties using this method. The city has begun with 12 building pools, starting detailed analysis on the first pool containing 19 buildings, including town halls and cultural centers. This initiative supports Krefeld's goal to become climate-neutral by 2035.

Krefeld's model project, 'Contracting: build the future!', offers free advice and support to other municipalities interested in ESC. Cities like Aschheim are already upgrading street lighting to LED technology, while Wunsiedel is implementing sustainable district heating networks. Krefeld's leading role is recognized by the NRW Energy and Climate Protection Agency.

The first four building pools, comprising around 100 buildings, are part of this model project. Rachid Jaghou, Carola Schellhorn, and Lisa Modler explain the planned ESC implementation measures and benefits in a short film. Christian Tiegel from the NRW Energy and Climate Protection Agency praises Krefeld's innovative approach.

Krefeld's comprehensive ESC project, starting with 12 building pools, is a significant step towards its 2035 climate-neutral goal. The city's pioneering role in NRW encourages other municipalities to adopt similar energy-saving strategies, with free advice and support available through the model project.
