Kashagan Oil Field Reaches One Billion Barrels Production Milestone, Affirmed by NCOC
In a significant milestone for the North Caspian Project, the Kashagan oil field has reached a production milestone of one billion barrels since its commencement in 2016. This achievement, announced through the NCOC press service, is a testament to the project's resilience and steady operation, despite the technical challenges presented by high-pressure reservoirs, high hydrogen sulfide content, and an offshore setting.
Currently, the Kashagan field is producing around 18 million tons of oil per year, a slight increase from the previously forecasted 17.8 million tons. In the first five months of 2025 alone, output reached approximately 7.7 million tons, reflecting stable and growing production since its commercial start in 2016.
NCOC Managing Director, Giancarlo Ruiu, highlighted this achievement as a moment to appreciate the history of the company. He acknowledged the efforts of all involved parties in the operations, emphasising that this milestone would not have been possible without countless hours of steady work, thoughtful solutions, and quiet dedication.
Looking ahead, the project operator, NCOC, and KazMunayGas (KMG) have plans to further develop the field and adjacent infrastructure. Discussions with partners like Eni include expanding geological exploration, personnel development, and constructing a hybrid power station to support production growth. Forecast trends anticipate Kashagan oil output rising slightly beyond 18 million tons in the near term as capacity and efficiency improve.
The Kashagan field remains a core asset of the North Caspian Project, with steady production increases and ongoing development to sustain and enhance output into the future. As a significant socio-economic contributor in Kazakhstan, the field's continued growth is expected to have a positive impact on the country's economy.
This milestone marks a direction towards the future for the Kashagan oil field, signalling continued growth and development in the coming years. The North Caspian Project remains committed to overcoming challenges and maximising the potential of this valuable resource.
The Kashagan field's production of one billion barrels in the oil-and-gas industry, achieved in 2025, underscores the North Caspian Project's success in finance and energy, particularly in oil-and-gas production. moving forward, the project aims to further develop the field, including expansion of geological exploration, personnel development, and construction of a hybrid power station, seeking to increase oil output in the finance and energy sector, and support the growth of Kazakhstan's economy.
