Jaguar Land Rover Extends Production Halt to September 24 Due to Cyberattack

Jaguar Land Rover has extended its production halt until at least September 24 due to a cyberattack. The attack, which occurred in early September, has disrupted the company's production and retail operations, with initial reports suggesting no customer data was compromised. However, the situation has since evolved.

The extended halt, initially expected to last until September 17, will now continue until at least the 24th. This delay is estimated to cost Jaguar Land Rover at least £50M weekly in lost output, with about 1,000 cars missed per week. The attack has also impacted systems at the Solihull production plant, blocking car registrations and parts supply for UK dealers.

A loosely organized English-speaking hacker group called 'Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters' has claimed responsibility for the attack. Jaguar Land Rover has not officially confirmed this claim. Industry sources warn that the disruption could last into November, highlighting the severity of the situation.

Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed a data breach following the cyberattack, although details about the type of information compromised remain undisclosed. The extended production halt and potential long-term disruption underscore the significant impact of the attack on the company's operations. The financial implications are substantial, with weekly losses estimated at £50M and around 1,000 cars missed per week.
