Italian Star Deli's founder breathes last, enduring legacy persists in Regina
In the heart of Regina, Ontario, the Italian Star Deli, a family-run business that has been a city staple for nearly six decades, is dealing with a significant loss. Frank Giambattista, the deli's founder, passed away in early August at the age of 95.
Frank and his wife Gina immigrated from Italy and purchased the deli in 1966. Under their ownership, the business grew substantially, expanding from two employees to over 20. Frank was remembered as a trustworthy, honest, hard-working individual and a pillar of the community.
The deli remains family-owned, with Frank's son Carlo now co-owning the business. In a touching tribute, Carlo's granddaughter was recently born and named Francesca in Frank's honour, symbolizing the family's commitment to continuing his memory and values.
The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Saskatchewan Alzheimer Society in Frank’s memory, reflecting his impact on both family and community.
As the Italian Star Deli continues to serve its loyal customers, the family is focused on carrying on Frank's legacy. Katherine Ludwig, a local journalist, spoke with the owner of the Italian Star Deli about how the family plans to honour Frank's memory and keep his values alive within the business.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Air Canada has issued a strike notice, and the company plans to implement a lockout. However, the specific reasons for the airline's actions are not yet known.

Small-business owner Frank Giambattista's family is heading the Italian Star Deli with the same values and commitment, as demonstrated by the naming of his granddaughter after him. They are still focused on growing the finance aspect of their small-business, remembering Frank's legacy while serving their loyal customers diligently.
