The automotive titan, Mercedes-Benz, has decided to heavily invest its financial muscle into the German soil this year. According to CEO Ola Källenius, speaking to the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung" last Thursday, the company exclaims, "We're pumping the most in Germany!" Mercedes is determined to act as a robust motor for the German economic hub. On a global scale, the company plans to invest a whopping 14 billion euros this year - "a big chunk of that in Europe, a big chunk again in Germany."

Mercedes expresses a strong desire to catch up in the electromobility race, Källenius explained further. "We aim to grow boldly and sell a heck of a lot more electric cars than today." As for the future, an electric version of the Mercedes SUV GLC and the new entry-level model CLA are scheduled for 2026.

In the trade dispute with the USA, the company CEO urged caution against escalation. "The strength of Europe and Germany in particular lies in exports," said Källenius. "It's not spotty to construct trade barriers yourself, 'cause you got more to lose than the trading partner."

Going Green: Mercedes-Benz's Sustainable Energy Push

Mercedes-Benz aspires to secure 140 MW of renewable electricity by 2027, which would account for approximately 30% of its electricity needs in Germany. This is part of a broader initiative to trim carbon emissions and rely more faithfully on sustainable energy sources[1].

Electric Vehicles Galore: The Mercedes-Benz Production Line Swings into Action

The Mercedes-Benz CLA has already entered serial production at the Rastatt plant, with electric motors and other components being supplied from various German production plants. However, the all-electric version of the Mercedes G-Class has been underperforming in terms of sales[4].

Delivering Electric Solutions for Logistics

Mercedes-Benz Trucks is pushing the boundaries in electric logistics. At the 2025 "transport logistic" fair, they unveiled their new electric flagship, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600, alongside their TruckCharge brand offerings. By leveraging their years of experience with electric logistics in their own supply chains, they aim to provide support for suppliers and customers in transitioning to more sustainable logistics[2].

Playing a Part in Regulatory Advocacy

While not specific to Mercedes-Benz, the German automotive industry is advocating for more flexible regulations regarding the sale of new combustion engine cars past 2035. They suggest reducing emissions by 90% instead of achieving zero emissions, which could impact the speed of electromobility adoption[5].

In summary, Mercedes-Benz is gearing up for an electromobility revolution in Germany, aiming to drive the change and establish a significant presence in the transition to a greener future.

  1. In line with their commitment to electromobility, Mercedes-Benz is planning to invest a significant portion of their funds in vocational training programs for developing skilled workforce in the automotive industry, a move that aligns with their larger goal of contributing to the economy and sustainable transportation.
  2. As part of their efforts to support the community and promote environmental consciousness, Mercedes-Benz is also advocating for more flexible finance policies to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, which could lead to reduced carbon emissions and greater reliance on renewable energy sources in transportation.
