Intense Evaluation of the 2018 Hyundai i30 N on the Racing Circuit

The Hyundai i30 N, a hot hatch contender, has been making waves in the automotive industry with its strong performance and dynamic driving experience. This compact car sports a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, producing around 250 to 275 horsepower, depending on the model and performance pack.

The base model of the i30 N boasts a 6-speed manual gearbox and offers 184kW/353Nm of power and torque. It can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds, reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. However, it's worth noting that the base model requires careful throttle application to prevent torque steer and wandering under hard acceleration.

For those seeking more power, the Performance Pack (PP) model bumps up the power to 202kW and torque to 353Nm, with the torque available at a wider range of 1450-4700rpm. This variant also features an engine of 1998cc inline-4cyl, DOHC, 16v, turbo, and weighs 1480kg. The PP model can sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.

Pricing for the base model of the i30 N is expected to "straddle" a Golf GTI, so around $40K is expected for the base model (if it comes) and closer to $45K for the PP. Pricing for the PP model is yet to be confirmed.

An eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox will be available for the i30 N in a few years. More information about the i30 N will be revealed in February 2018.

The i30 N's chassis is a highlight, with well-weighted and geared steering, strong brakes, high grip levels, and adjustability. The car offers a sharp steering feel, good balance, and an engaging driving experience.

The i30 N also boasts aggressive styling cues, exclusive N badges, sports seats, and interior red accents, emphasizing its sporty nature. It can be found at Raleigh Raceway in Coffs Harbour.

The i30 N is generally regarded as a very capable hot hatch, delivering strong performance and driving dynamics for its segment. However, it's worth noting that some reviewers have expressed concerns about parts reliability and its impact compared to competitors like the Renault Megane RS.

With modern tech, solid performance, and appealing styling, the 2018 Hyundai i30 N is highly competitive against established rivals in the hot hatch category. Subsequent variants like the N Line trim add sportier suspension tuning, upgraded brakes, and improved engine response, bringing enhancements in performance feel.
