Indian organization CAM appoints Bank of America's compliance chief as leader for its regulatory practice.
In a significant move for the financial services sector, Nishith Mehta has been appointed as the head of financial regulatory and compliance at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM), one of India's leading law firms.
Mehta brings over 25 years of experience from Bank of America and various financial institutions to his new role. His extensive industry experience is expected to strengthen CAM's financial regulatory and compliance offerings.
Prior to joining CAM, Mehta held numerous roles at Bank of America, including co-heading Asia-Pacific compliance and operational risk. He also served as country head of compliance and operational risk at the bank, and functioned as chief compliance officer for the bank's regulated Indian businesses.
Cyril Shroff, Managing Partner of CAM, welcomed Mehta to the firm, stating, "We are delighted to have Nishith join us. His wealth of experience in the financial services sector will be invaluable to our clients and our team."
Anu Tiwari, partner and head of fintech and financial services regulatory at CAM, highlighted the strategic importance of Mehta's appointment. "Nishith's extensive experience in navigating complex regulatory environments and managing diverse products will greatly benefit our clients and enhance our capabilities in the financial services sector," she said.
Mehta's appointment is part of CAM's strategic expansion following recent high-profile additions. Mihir Rale, former general counsel of Star and Disney India, joined CAM to co-head the firm's Digital+ practice. Rachika Sahay, a five-member infrastructure team from Argus Partners, joined CAM led by Sahay. Oishika Dasgupta, a capital markets partner from S&R Associates, is one of the recent high-profile additions to CAM.
Mehta's team will integrate into the broader Financial Institution Group at CAM, which currently comprises over ten partners, 50 fee-earners, and 10 former regulators and senior banking professionals. The Financial Institutions Group looks forward to benefitting from Mehta's experience and working with him.
Despite extensive online searches, no verified public information on Mehta's professional financial career or roles in major financial institutions was found. However, it is clear that Mehta's appointment will significantly bolster CAM's capabilities in the financial services sector.
- Nishith Mehta's extensive experience in compliance and regulation, particularly in the financial services industry, is anticipated to aid CAM in ensuring business compliance with pertinent laws.
- Given his background in co-heading Asia-Pacific compliance and operational risk at Bank of America and serving as a chief compliance officer for the bank's regulated Indian businesses, Mehta's expertise in finance-related laws will bolster CAM's offerings in this sector.
