Indian Accountant Exposes 'Biggest Business' in India: Corruption
Dinesh Wadera, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), has spoken out about the widespread corruption in India. He described it as the 'biggest business' in the country, affecting everything from small contracts to billion-dollar projects.
Wadera highlighted that corruption is not confined to a single department. It permeates all levels, from customs to GST refunds. He explained that it 'runs on targets', with officials having collection goals to meet. This institutionalized corruption, as Wadera put it, has turned officers and leaders into 'gangsters in suits'.
Wadera's comments were sparked by the recent halt of operations by Wintrack, a Tamil Nadu-based logistics firm. The company stopped its import and export activities due to alleged harassment from Chennai Customs officials. This incident, along with numerous others exposed by investigative journalists, underscores the persistent issue of corruption in India.
Wadera emphasized that it is the common man and honest entrepreneurs who bear the brunt of this corruption. He concluded that until the cycle of corruption is broken, India will continue to be a nation where the most profitable 'time in india' is corruption itself.
