Haan secures an extended contract for Solingen's drinking water supply

In a move to ensure a long-term, reliable provision of water services, Stadtwerke Solingen and Stadtwerke Haan have extended their water supply contract for 20 years. This extension will allow for continued cooperation between the two utilities, leveraging Stadtwerke Solingen’s larger infrastructure and expertise to supply high-quality drinking water to Haan efficiently.

The benefits of this extension for the residents of Haan include:

  1. Stable and Secure Water Supply: A long-term contract ensures uninterrupted access to clean drinking water.
  2. Quality Assurance: The partnership maintains high standards in water quality and safety. Constant monitoring of various water parameters is conducted by the employees of the Glüder waterworks and the accredited drinking water laboratory of the Stadtwerke Solingen.
  3. Cost-effectiveness: Economies of scale and shared infrastructure can help keep water prices stable and affordable.
  4. Sustainable Management: The agreement supports sustainable resource management and investment in modern water infrastructure. Long-term cooperation with farmers around the Sengbach reservoir contributes to drinking water protection, including land management and the use of seeds and fertilizers.
  5. Local Involvement: Stadtwerke Haan remains involved in overseeing water distribution, ensuring that the needs of local customers are met.

The renewed concession for the water supply of the residents of Haan is for the next 40 years. Leif Reitis, CEO of the Stadtwerke Solingen, has confirmed the continuation of the successful and constructive cooperation. He also stated that the extension is an incentive for future investments to maintain and improve the quality of drinking water from the Glüder waterworks.

Grit Köhler, CEO of the Stadtwerke Haan, expresses satisfaction with the stable and trustworthy partnership between the Stadtwerke Haan and Solingen. She also noted that the renewed concession is a significant reason for Haan to celebrate.

The raw water for Haan’s drinking water is professionally treated in the Glüder and Dabringhausen waterworks. The water from the reservoirs is particularly soft surface water with a low calcium content, highly valued for its low hardness. This soft water is filtered and processed in several stages according to drinking water regulations.

The Stadtwerke Solingen have a history of maintaining high drinking water quality through forward-thinking and smart investments. The current water supply contract for the Stadtwerke Haan runs until the end of 2026. However, with this extension, the residents of Haan will continue to receive high-quality drinking water from the Sengbach and Große Dhünntalsperre until the end of 2046.

In conclusion, the 20-year extension promotes reliability, quality, and sustainability for Haan’s water supply, benefiting its residents directly.

  1. The extended water supply contract between Stadtwerke Solingen and Stadtwerke Haan, set to last for 40 years, greatly benefits the finance and business sectors of Haan as it ensures a stable and secure supply of high-quality drinking water.
  2. The successful collaboration in the industry of water supply between Stadtwerke Solingen and Stadtwerke Haan, as demonstrated by the 20-year extension, has significant positive impact on the finance and business environment of Haan, particularly in terms of cost-effectiveness, sustainable management, and local engagement.
