Government Initiative Set to Boost Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
The "medium is MEGA" campaign, scheduled for launch on May 14 in Stuttgart, seeks to change public perception and celebrate the vital role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Baden-Württemberg. These businesses, which account for over 99% of all companies in the region, generate around 36 to 40% of the turnover, amounting to €566 billion in 2022.
The SME sector in Baden-Württemberg stands out for its focus on direct decision-making, independence, and a long-term perspective. It is heavily influenced by family entrepreneurship and operates with a desire to shape the future. These "hidden champions" are global technology leaders, often lacking the appreciation they deserve.
The campaign, led by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economics, aims to bring the achievements of the SME sector into public focus. It promotes networking, innovation, and knowledge exchange within the SME community, helping them to grow and compete. Every second SME in the industrial sector actively researches new products or processes, making the sector a key driver of innovation.
The "medium is MEGA" campaign emphasizes that while these businesses may be "medium" in size, their impact is "mega" in terms of economic and social value. It seeks to raise awareness of the challenges and achievements of SMEs in Baden-Württemberg and encourages local support. Consumers and larger companies are encouraged to engage with and value the products and services offered by these businesses.
Representatives of chambers and associations will attend the campaign launch to show their support for the SME sector. The campaign also aligns with regional policies to provide better access to resources, training, and financial support for SMEs.
Wolfgang Leja can be contacted for further information at the provided email address. The SME sector in Baden-Württemberg combines personal risk-taking with a "maker mentality," remaining locally anchored despite operating in international markets. It is responsible for creating 64% of all jobs in Baden-Württemberg, making it a crucial part of the region's economic success.
