Goldman Sachs Anticipates Stock Market Upsurge; Recession 'Out of Consideration' for Now - Insights Provided
Daily Hodl: Unfiltered Finance News
Spill the tea! Will the stock market rally further, lifting the S&P 500 and your investments? Goldman Sachs' top US equity strategist, David Kostin, shares his insight in an exclusive interview with CNBC.
Kostin says, "Listen here, the equity market usually pays more attention to soft data than hard data". Some soft data has been shaky, causing a fair bit of concern in the markets, but Kostin thinks that might soon change. He believes that hard data will take charge.
"Now, the equity market traditionally responds more to soft data than hard data. And there's been a weak soft data period — some of it might be turning, though."
With some cautious optimism, he also indicates that the US stock market may see a temporary downslide due to tariff-related uncertainty, but by the end of the year, the S&P 500 could surge by up to 10%.
"In the short term, you might see some downside as tariff-driven drama unfolds, but by the end of the year, we're looking at a 10% climb on the S&P 500. No recession's on the horizon in our base case scenario, so earnings growth will keep the market moving."
As we inch closer to earnings season, companies are finalizing their share repurchases, which could affect market movement. Kostin elaborates, "Look, the numbers are a bit tricky, but earnings will remain strong this year at about 7%, and next year should bring another 7%. Add that up, and the market could reach around 6,500 — a nice 10% increase from its current position."
