German Authorities Seize 2,500 Packets of Potency-Enhancing Honey
German authorities have seized over 2,500 packets of 'Lotus Premium Honey' from Turkey due to illegal contents. The product, which contains the potency-enhancing substance Sildenafil, poses serious health risks and is now subject to criminal proceedings.
Customs officers at the Main Customs Office Landshut discovered the illegal honey 'sweetener' during routine checks. The product was found to contain Sildenafil, a substance used in medications for erectile dysfunction, but not declared on the packaging. Consuming the honey 'delicacy' can lead to dangerous interactions with other medications and severe side effects, including impairment of driving ability.
The German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) and law enforcement authorities have initiated criminal proceedings against those responsible for the illegal import of this unapproved medication. Consumers are warned against purchasing and consuming unapproved potency or medicinal products from uncertain sources due to the high health risks involved.
The seized honey 'treats', totalling 2,520 packets, is now removed from circulation. Training events for Zollinfotage, aimed at raising awareness about such illegal imports, will take place on April 26, 2025, in Altdorf and on May 10, 2025, in Passau. Interested parties can register via email.
