Geely's M9 large SUV, sporting a measurement of 5.2 meters, hits the market with a budget-friendly starting price of $24,470.
Geely Auto's sub-brand, Geely Galaxy, has launched a new contender in the large hybrid SUV market—the M9. The M9, priced at a discounted starting price of RMB 173,800 ($24,470), is positioned to disrupt the market with its competitive pricing and superior performance.
According to the company, the M9 sold a record 110,666 vehicles in August, marking a 172.59 percent year-on-year increase and a 16.44 percent rise from July. This surge in sales is a testament to the M9's appeal in the stock market today.
The M9 comes in six variants, with two basic driver assistance feature variants priced at RMB 183,800 and RMB 198,800 respectively. The remaining four variants, which come with Geely's G-Pilot H5 smart driving system, are priced at RMB 192,800, RMB 207,800, RMB 226,800, and RMB 248,800 respectively.
The M9 offers battery pack options of 18.4 kWh and 41.46 kWh. The CLTC battery range for the 41.46 kWh pack is 230 km, and the WLTC range is 185 km. For the 18.4 kWh pack, the CLTC battery range is 100 km, and the WLTC range is 85 km.
The M9 is built on Geely's Electric Architecture Evo (GEA Evo) platform and measures 5,205 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, 1,800 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,030 mm. It offers comparable dimensions to Li Auto's Li L9 extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), but at half the price (RMB 409,800).
The M9's cabin features the industry's first AI-agent-driven automotive cockpit, Agent OS. It is available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. With a full tank and fully charged battery, the M9 achieves a combined range of up to 1,500 kilometers.
Deutsche Bank analyst Wang Bin's team views the M9's competitive pricing as its core selling point, setting a new price benchmark in the full-size SUV stock market. The most powerful variant of the M9 delivers a peak power output of 640 kW (859 horsepower) and peak torque of 1,165 Nm. The M9 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
Given its competitive pricing and superior performance compared to peers, the M9 is projected to have average monthly sales of about 5,000 units. In the competitive Chinese market, the M9 competes with brands like NIO, BYD, Geely (including its Lynk & Co and Polestar brands), and XPeng, which produce large hybrid or electric SUVs that compete in size and market segment with models like the M9.
In conclusion, the Geely Galaxy M9 is a compelling offering in the large hybrid SUV market. With its competitive pricing, superior performance, and innovative features, it is poised to make a significant impact in the market.
