GBO mbH Slashes CO2 Emissions with District Heating Expansion
GBO mbH Offenbach is actively reducing its carbon footprint by transitioning properties to district heating. Around 1,600 apartments have already made the switch, with more conversions planned.
The company's focus on environmentally friendly energy sources has led to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. A senior living facility on Annastraße is set to join the district heating network, thanks to a nearby line. This conversion required little effort and will result in approximately 70% less CO2 emissions compared to a gas heating system.
The district heating for this facility will come from EVO Energieversorgung Offenbach GmbH's waste incineration power plant. EVO is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2040, making it a suitable partner for GBO's climate change mitigation goals. Tenants will not bear the costs for the conversion, and GBO expects a substantial subsidy of at least 30 percent for the investment.
GBO's CEO, René Weber, is leading the effort to convert remaining gas-operated heating systems to district heating. This initiative aligns with the city of Offenbach's goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2045. The upcoming heating season will see the senior living facility on Annastraße benefit from this greener energy source, contributing to the city's wider climate change objectives.
