In the 1990s, a significant shift in the management of NPL (National Priorities List) sites occurred. According to the data, no NPL sites were created in the year 1990, and no deleted NPL sites were recorded from 1990 to 1997. This period also saw no construction completions at NPL sites in 1991.

The policy to allow partial deletions at sites was introduced in FY 1996, marking a change in approach towards managing these sites. However, no partial deletions were made in the years leading up to this policy implementation, namely 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, and 1998.

Fast forward to the new millennium, and the trend has shifted. Between 2000 and 2021, approximately 1,700 partial removals have taken place at NPL sites. Interestingly, these removals have occurred at 118 different sites, with a total of 159 partial deletions recorded.

It's important to note that a fiscal year spans from October 1 to September 30. The data for the current fiscal year includes the number of NPL site actions and will be updated as NPL site actions occur.

Looking back at the 80s, the number of NPL sites in 1989 was 101. The number of proposed NPL sites in 1990 was 25, but as mentioned earlier, no NPL sites were created that year.

This overview provides a snapshot of the evolution of NPL site management over the years, highlighting the shift from no activity in the 90s to increased partial removals in the 21st century.
