Fire in Munich Leaves Two Women Injured, One Critically, Amid Oktoberfest

A fire in Munich has left two women injured, one of them critically, and a body suspected to be that of a 90-year-old man found inside the burned-out house. The incident is believed to be a result of a family dispute, with a 57-year-old man suspected of setting the fire and taking his own life while evading emergency services.

The fire broke out at a house in Munich, where a 21-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and an 81-year-old woman suffered moderate gunshot wounds. Authorities suspect the body found inside the house to be that of the 90-year-old father of the primary suspect.

The incident comes amidst the ongoing Oktoberfest celebrations. Following recent security incidents, including a bomb threat that led to a temporary closure and a large police operation, the festival resumed at 5:30 PM. However, visitor numbers were lower than usual, with many sales stands reporting quieter business. The Oktoberfest hotel and restaurant association, Dehoga, suggested extending the festival as a sign of resilience.

The Oktoberfest continues to proceed normally, with beer tents opening at 10:00 AM on Thursday. Authorities have ruled out a political motive for the crime, attributing it to a family dispute. The investigation into the fire and the suspect's suicide is ongoing, with potential economic impacts on local businesses and vendors due to lost business and increased security measures.
