Financial aid amounting to over £5 million earmarked for struggling households in Wiltshire
Wiltshire Council has announced a new round of funding from the Household Support Fund, worth £5.4m, to help households struggling with living costs, including food and energy bills. The funding, which is from round four of the Household Support Fund, was announced by the government in April 2023 and is being provided by the Department for Work and Pensions.
The focus of the funding is to support households struggling with living costs, and the support will be aimed at those struggling the most. Support will be provided through food parcels, energy vouchers, supermarket vouchers, household items, and meals.
Fiona Oliver, joint chief executive of Wiltshire Community Foundation, stated that the funds will make a real difference and enable organisations to continue their vital work at a time when they are needed most. The council and third sector organizations will work together to deliver this support.
In addition to Wiltshire Council, British Solar Renewables (BSR) is involved in the operation and distribution of funding related to the solar park in Whaddon. Axpo Group is involved in purchasing the output from this solar park, indicating their role in the broader distribution and management of funds linked to this renewable energy project.
Details of how to apply for the grants were made available at the beginning of this month and can be found on the foundation's website. The Household Support Fund is expected to run until 31 March 2024.
Meanwhile, concerns about food banks running out of supplies persist. A food bank in Wales has run out of food due to a spike in demand amidst the cost-of-living crisis. In response, BanktheFood, a charity, has launched a fresh appeal for people to donate goods via its digital app.
The Household Support Fund is not the only initiative aimed at helping those struggling with living costs. With the cost-of-living crisis continuing to impact many households, it is hoped that these funds will provide much-needed relief to those in need.
