Expanding its footprint in New Jersey, Lidl establishes another supermarket location.
Lidl Expands East Coast Presence with New Hackensack Store
Lidl, a global supermarket chain owned by Schwarz Group, is set to open a new store in Hackensack, New Jersey on July 25. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to deepen its market presence in metropolitan areas where it already operates, such as New York and Maryland.
The Hackensack store will be located at 150 River Street and will join Lidl's existing 20+ locations in New Jersey. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony will commence at 7:40 a.m.
Lidl's success in the US can be attributed to its focus on convenience, quality, and value. The company's smaller stores offer a limited but high-quality selection of private-label products, providing a quick, affordable shopping experience without the bulk-buying demands typical of competitors like Costco or Walmart.
A key aspect of Lidl's strategy is its exclusive product offerings. The Butcher's Specialty private label meat brand, for example, provides excellent alternatives to national brands at lower prices. The Special Guest bakery program, which introduces a new baked good every month, further enhances Lidl's appeal by offering fresh, desirable bakery products under an exclusive arrangement.
For its Hackensack opening, Lidl will have two special guests: Cinnamon Raisin NY Bagel and the brand-new Banana Nut Muffin. The company will also introduce a new treat, Angel Hair Chocolate, starting mid-July.
Recent Placer.ai research suggests that Lidl is making inroads in suburban markets. The company currently operates more than 180 stores across nine East Coast states and Washington, D.C. Lidl US is based in Arlington, Va. and is active in 31 countries worldwide.
Lidl US is ranked No. 90 on The PG 100, Progressive Grocer's 2025 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America. With its focus on urban expansion, smaller-format stores, and exclusive private-label brands, Lidl is poised to continue its growth and success in the US market.
In pursuit of expanding its market presence, Lidl, a global supermarket chain, is venturing into the retail business of Hackensack, New Jersey, with a new store opening on July 25. To financially fuel this growth, Lidl taps into the industry by focusing on private label products, offering quality alternatives at competitive prices, all part of its broader strategy to penetrate the US market more deeply.
