Nissan is set to release three new electric vehicles, including the all-electric British-built LEAF, which will hit the market later this year. This announcement comes as Vauxhall, a long-standing advocate for electrification in Britain, continues to offer some of the most popular electric cars on UK roads.

Steve Catlin, managing director of Vauxhall, emphasised the company's commitment to electrifying Britain, stating that they have been dedicated to this cause for years. Vauxhall's dedication has not gone unnoticed, as their Ellesmere Port plant is now eligible for the support of the Electric Car Grant for every electric model in their line-up.

The Electric Car Grant is a government initiative aimed at promoting the uptake of electric vehicles in the UK. James Taylor, managing director of Nissan Motor GB, praised the grant, saying it is a clear signal to both customers and manufacturers that the UK government is prioritising electric vehicles and providing affordable options to consumers.

The Renault Alpine A290, Renault Megane, Nissan Ariya, Nissan Micra, Vauxhall Combo Life Electric, and Vauxhall Astra Electric are now eligible for the government's Electric Car Grant.

Across the sea, Germany saw a significant increase in the registration of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in 2025. In August alone, around 39,367 new BEVs were registered, with the Volkswagen ID.7, ID.3, and ID.4/ID.5 being among the most popular models. Other top new electric cars in Germany include the Škoda Enyaq, Škoda Elroq, Cupra Born, BMW iX1, Mini Cooper Electric, Audi Q6 e-tron, and Audi Q4 e-tron.

With the Electric Car Grant and the continuous efforts of manufacturers like Nissan and Vauxhall, the future of electric vehicles in the UK looks promising, offering consumers more affordable and sustainable options for transportation.
