Alnatura Under New Leadership: Petra Schäfer Takes the Reins as CEO

Petra Schäfer, a long-standing member of the Alnatura management team, has been appointed as the CEO of the leading organic supermarket chain in Germany. Since her appointment in October 2021, Schäfer has been steering the company towards continued success.

Alnatura, with its headquarters in Stuttgart, boasts over 1,400 organic products under its own brand and operates 153 organic markets in 73 cities across 14 German states. The company's reach extends beyond Germany's borders, with partner retailers in 19 European countries, including Edeka, Tegut, Hit, Globus, Müller, and Rossmann.

As CEO, Schäfer has taken on a central role in Alnatura's organizational structure, overseeing strategic management and operational decisions. Her responsibilities encompass product sourcing, store operations, sustainability efforts, and corporate development, all in line with Alnatura’s mission of promoting organic and sustainable food retail.

Schäfer's rise to the top has been steady. She began her journey with Alnatura as a member of the management team in October 2021, and before that, she served as the deputy of the founder, Götz Rehn, and the deputy chairperson of Alnatura's management since October 1, 2020.

The management structure at Alnatura underwent significant changes on October 1, 2022, with all management members now reporting directly to Schäfer. Despite these changes, the overall responsibility for the company and all subsidiaries remains with Rehn.

Alnatura's retail operations are not limited to its own markets. The company also sells its organic products through approximately 15,000 branches of partner retailers. In the 2023/24 fiscal year, Alnatura achieved a turnover of 1.195 billion euros, an increase of 3.9% compared to the previous year.

Schäfer continues to oversee her previous responsibilities, including purchasing and product management, marketing and communication, and employee services and development. Her leadership has been instrumental in Alnatura's growth, making it the largest organic supermarket in Germany by revenue.
