Carnival Corporation's Vicky Rey Joins Global Food Waste Coalition

Vicky Rey, Vice President of Government Affairs for Latin America at Carnival Corporation & plc, has joined the Champions 12.3 coalition, a global initiative aiming to halve food waste and food loss by 2030 as part of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 12.3.

Rey, a veteran executive with over four decades at Carnival, brings her extensive expertise to the coalition. Her leadership has been instrumental in shaping scalable, impact-driven solutions and cross-sector partnerships that generate lasting community benefits.

One of her significant achievements at Carnival is the successful implementation of the Less Left Over strategy, which has reduced food waste per person by 44% in 2024 compared to 2019. This progress surpasses the interim targets set by the company ahead of schedule.

In her role at Champions 12.3, Rey aims to develop actionable, replicable surplus meal donation frameworks. She has already spearheaded the expansion of Carnival's meal donation program across Latin America, partnering with food banks and local organizations to ensure surplus safe, high-quality meals reach families and communities in need.

This program is part of Carnival's broader commitment to reducing food waste while addressing food insecurity. By maximizing the use of safe surplus food rather than discarding it, the company is making a significant contribution to global food security efforts.

Liz Goodwin, senior fellow and Director of Food Loss and Waste at World Resources Institute, welcomed Rey's appointment. Goodwin praised Rey's leadership in shaping flexible, trust-based models built on food safety, compliance, and community collaboration.

Rey's appointment to Champions 12.3 reflects her role in shaping scalable, impact-driven solutions to reduce food waste. As a member of the coalition, she will bring her valuable insights to a group of executive leaders from various sectors, with the aim of promoting cross-sector collaboration globally and accelerating progress towards the goal of halving food loss and waste by 2030.
