Evangelical Church in Central Germany (EVAG) undergoes significant transformation in Erfurt!

In a significant step towards reducing emissions and improving public transport efficiency, Erfurt's utility company EVAG has unveiled three new electric articulated buses as part of its electric bus program. The new buses, which made their debut on June 26 at the Urbicher Kreuz depot, are set to revolutionise public transportation in the city.

The new electric buses boast a range of modern features designed to enhance the passenger experience and promote sustainability. Each bus is equipped with eight batteries, totaling a capacity of 640 kilowatt-hours, and two electric motors with a combined output of 400 kilowatts. This power configuration enables the buses to travel over 200 kilometers on a single charge, making them suitable for a full day of urban operations without frequent recharging.

Passengers can enjoy a comfortable journey with the buses' heat pump climate control system, barrier-free interior, and seating capacity for 118 passengers. The buses also offer Wi-Fi connectivity, ensuring passengers can stay connected during their commute.

Safety is a top priority, as evidenced by the buses' modern driver assistance systems, including a turning assistant with pedestrian recognition. This feature aims to improve road safety by detecting pedestrians and helping the driver navigate tight corners with precision.

The inauguration of the new electric buses was attended by Steffen Schütz, Thuringia's Minister for Digital Affairs and Infrastructure, and Erfurt's Mayor, Andreas Horn. The state government provided around 700,000 euros in funding for these three new articulated buses, underscoring its commitment to sustainable transportation solutions.

Notably, Erfurt's utility company has been using certified green power from Norwegian hydropower since 2010, further emphasising the city's dedication to reducing its carbon footprint. The new buses are charged overnight at the EVAG depot using electricity sourced entirely from renewable sources.

As Erfurt continues to transition some of its buses to electric power, these new electric buses represent a significant leap forward in the city's efforts to promote sustainable public transportation. For precise and up-to-date specifics about EVAG's fleet in Erfurt, such as exact battery capacity, range, and technological features of the newly introduced buses, consulting EVAG's official announcements or local transport authority releases would be necessary.
