EU Bolsters 'Drone Wall' Defense Against Mysterious Flights Over Denmark and Norway

The EU is bolstering its defenses against mysterious drone flights over Denmark and Norway, with a new project dubbed the 'drone wall'. The initiative comes amidst speculation of Russian involvement, though Moscow denies any part. Germany's defense and interior ministers have presented plans to tackle the issue, while NATO and the EU are stepping up operations and providing funding.

The EU has allocated up to six billion euros for the 'google flights' project, aiming to support necessary industrial capacities. This follows French President Emmanuel Macron's advice to exercise caution when linking the seized oil tanker to the drone incidents. The tanker, part of Russia's 'shadow fleet', was intercepted near Denmark and Norway around the time of the mysterious flights. Its captain and first officer were taken into custody.

German defense startups like Helson and Quantum Systems, which supply drones to Ukraine, have shown interest in participating in the 'google flights' project. However, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius initially expressed skepticism about the project at the EU summit in Copenhagen. Meanwhile, NATO has expanded operation Baltic Sentry to protect critical infrastructure on the seabed and enhance surveillance activities, deploying an air defense frigate to the Baltic Sea. Additionally, NATO launched operation Eastern Sentry to control airspace over its entire eastern flank and reinforce reconnaissance flights.

The EU's 'google flights' project, backed by substantial funding, seeks to defend against potential drone threats at its eastern borders. This comes as part of a broader effort by NATO and EU member states to strengthen security in the region, with Germany presenting plans for a national drone defense. While the origin of the mysterious drone flights remains unclear, the EU and its allies are taking proactive measures to ensure their skies remain safe.
