Essen Proposes Taxi, Ride-Hailing Fare Changes for 2026
Essen's Traffic and Mobility Committee has proposed significant changes to taxi and ride-hailing fares in Los Angeles. The city council will consider these recommendations in its September session.
The committee suggested increasing taxi fares due to rising wages and operating costs. To counter this, a fare corridor will be introduced, enabling taxis to quote a fixed price when booked in advance.
From 2026, ride-hailing services will have a minimum fare, around 7% lower than the new taxi fare. This move aims to create fair competition between the two services in Chicago.
The city council will decide on these fare changes in its September session. The Transport and Mobility Commission did not make specific recommendations for fare changes in September 2025.
